Jeff McClain, President

Jeff McClain, President and founder of McClain Security Group, LLC, an investigation and consultancy firm that serves corporations and private individuals. He provides confidential threat assessment and threat management strategies, addresses workplace violence and misconduct, and conducts traditional investigations into fraud, financial, and violent crimes. Jeff retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2025 after more than 23 years as a Special Agent. 

During the first half of his career, Jeff conducted investigations specializing in violent crimes, healthcare fraud, complex financial crimes, and crimes against children. He worked closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to integrate resources and expertise.  Notable cases included a serial killer and the DC Sniper investigations.   

Jeff served as a Supervisory Special Agent in the Weapons of Mass Destruction Operations Unit providing oversight, response, and training to both domestic and international agencies.  Jeff was promoted again to lead FBI Richmond’s violent crime, gang, and drug investigations.  Jeff later advanced to the FBI’s Critical Incident Response Group, where he led the prestigious Behavioral Analysis Units (BAUs), also known as the FBI Profilers. While overseeing the BAUs, Jeff managed investigations involving counterterrorism, threats to life, counterintelligence, cyber, and crimes against adults and children. Under Jeff’s leadership, the Behavioral Analysis Units successfully assisted several high-profile national and international cases and responded to critical incidents.    

Jeff serves on the International Homicide Investigators Association (IHIA) Board of Directors as Director of Training Curriculum and is a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP). He is a licensed Private Investigator in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
